Deputy Commanding General, 9th Army Signal Command

Brigadier General LaWarren V. Patterson assumed his current duties as the Deputy Commanding General, 9th Signal Command (Army), at Fort Huachuca, AZ, on Oct. 2, 2008. Prior to this assignment, he served as the Chief of the Portfolio Management Division, Governance Acquisition and Chief Knowledge Office Directorate, Office of the Army Chief Information Officer/G-6. 

Brigadier General Patterson graduated from Norfolk State University, receiving his commission as a second lieutenant in the Signal Corps in 1982, and earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communications. He also holds a Master of Science Degree in General Administration from Central Michigan University, and a Masters in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College.  His career has encompassed several command and staff positions. He has served with the 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas, the 3rd Infantry Division, the Joint Chiefs of Staff's (JCS) Intern Program, and served as the Signal Officer for 4th Squadron, 7th Cavalry, 3rd Armored Division during Desert Storm. Other assignments include: Army Personnel Services Command, S-3, 304th Signal Battalion, 1st Signal Brigade, and later as Executive Officer, the Joint Staff's Year 2000 Task Force. He command the 440th Signal Battalion, served as Brigade Commander, 1st Signal Brigade, Regional Chief Information Officer, and G-6, Eighth United States Army, South Korea.
