Brigadier General Charles K. Shugg, Confirmed
Brig. Gen. Charles K. Shugg is Vice Commander, 24th Air Force, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. As the Air Force's newest numbered air force, 24th Air Force will provide combatant commanders with trained and ready cyber forces to plan and conduct cyberspace operations, and to extend, maintain and defend the Air Force portion of the global information grid. General Shugg assists the commander in directing the activities of two wings and two combat communications groups: the 67th Network Warfare Wing and the 688th Information Operations Wing, both located at Lackland AFB; the 3rd Combat Communications Group at Tinker AFB, Okla.; and the 5th Combat Communications Group at Robins AFB, Ga.
General Shugg received his commission from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1980 and earned his wings at Reese AFB, Texas, in 1981. His previous flying duties include assignment as OV-10 forward air controller, F-15C instructor pilot, and various assignments in operational F-15C units and composite wings. He has commanded a fighter squadron, operations group, two wings and the Joint Unmanned Aircraft Systems Center of Excellence. He also commanded the 379th Air Expeditionary Wing in Southwest Asia. General Shugg's staff duties included Chief of Air-to-Air Strategy for the Checkmate Division, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, and Director of Operations, Headquarters U.S. Forces Japan.
