Rear Admiral (retired) Edward H. Deets, III joined the Software Engineering Institute, Carnegie Mellon University as the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) Deputy Director, Defense Cyber Solutions.  In this new role, Deets manages the development and execution of CERT activities related principally to national defense.  

 

Deets joined the SEI after retiring from more than 30 years in the Navy.  Most recently, he was the Vice Commander and then Commander of Naval Network Warfare Command where he oversaw the conduct of Navy network, communications, space, signals intelligence and cyber operations.

 

During his career, Deets earned designation as a Cryptologic Officer and as an Information Dominance Warfare Officer.  Among his many tours he commanded the Cryptologic Training and Education Center of Excellence at Corry Station, Pensacola, Florida; served at the National Security Agency; at the Naval Security Group Activity Pyongtaek, Republic of Korea; and on the staffs of Commander Carrier Group 2 deployed on the aircraft carrier USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67) and Commander U.S. Sixth Fleet in Gaeta, Italy.  He also served aboard numerous ships in multiple theaters of operations integrating information, intelligence and cyber capabilities.

He is a graduate of Duke University and the National War College and was commissioned through the Duke NROTC program.
